Lucy is a Ukrainian missions graduate from one of our Ukraine partner schools who defied all odds during the pandemic and war to pursue her calling as a missionary. After completing her internship in Uganda, Lucy showed her unwavering dedication to serving Christ by choosing to stay and ministering to the local community. Her ministry included walking miles through remote areas to reach the villages where she taught children, interacted with local families, read the Bible with them, listened to their needs, prayed, and helped in any way she could. The local people lovingly called her the Ukrainian Mother Teresa.
Unfortunately, tropical diseases began to deplete Lucy over time, leaving her with less and less strength. At the beginning of 2022, it was decided that Lucy should return to Ukraine for treatment. Shortly thereafter, the war began. She spent the first months of the war with her family, helping her neighbors, hiding them in a shelter, and preparing food for the people in need.
Now Lucy works in one of the missions that actively helps and serves near the front lines of the war. Every week they make three or four trips with humanitarian aid. Through their ministry, many thousands of people have received help. Hundreds of families have been rescued.
“Today the explosion was 50 meters from us, but God saved us… Today we were able to rescue three more children” – the theological school receives notes like this from Lucy almost every week.
